A Step-by-Step Guide to Preventing Leaks with a Professional-Grade Waterproofing Tape
When it comes to shower installations, waterproofing is an essential step. One of the most common failure points in bathrooms is where the shower tray meets the wall, and relying on silicone sealant alone can lead to hidden leaks, black mould, and long-term damage behind the tiles.
That’s why professional installers are turning to AquaTank ShowerSeal Pro Tape, a self-adhesive, flexible sealing tape designed specifically to prevent leaks at the tray or bath perimeter before tiling.
Why Shower Trays Leak
Even a perfectly tiled wall can fail if water finds a gap where the tray meets the wall. The most common issues include:
- Movement in the tray or walls over time
- Inadequate silicone adhesion on dusty or damp surfaces
- Poor sealing behind tiles or grout
- Rigid, brittle sealants that crack with use
These tiny gaps can lead to water seeping behind tiles, damaging plasterboard, rotting floor joists, and ultimately requiring expensive repairs.
What Is ShowerSeal Pro?
ShowerSeal Pro is a 10m long, 75mm waterproofing tape that is:
- Self-adhesive with a dual-release liner for precise installation
- Fitted after the tray or bath is in place — so there’s no guesswork
- Flexible and waterproof, able to absorb minor movement
- Designed to be tiled over, forming a hidden but watertight seal
- Suitable for showers, wet rooms, and bath perimeters
It’s the fast, clean, and professional way to protect one of the most vulnerable parts of your bathroom installation.
How to Seal a Shower Tray with AquaTank ShowerSeal Pro Tape:
Follow these steps for a leak-proof, long-lasting result
1. Prep the area
- Install and fully fix the shower tray or bath.
- Clean the tray edge and wall area thoroughly, remove all dust, oil, and residue.
- Make sure surfaces are dry, smooth, and stable.
- 2. Apply the tape to the tray
- Unroll ShowerSeal Pro and cut the required length.
- Peel off the lower release liner (tray side).
- Carefully press the adhesive side onto the flat edge of the shower tray or bath, ensuring full contact along the length.
- 3. Seal to the wall
- Once the tape is fixed to the tray, peel the rear liner (wall side).
- Press the vertical section of the tape against the wall or backer board, forming a continuous 90° seal.
- Use a flat blade or roller to smooth out the tape and eliminate air bubbles.
- 4. Tile over the tape
- Once in place, ShowerSeal Pro can be tiled over immediately.
- Use a flexible, cement-based tile adhesive suitable for wet areas.
- Allow adhesive to dry fully before grouting.
- 5. Finish and seal
- Apply flexible grout between tiles.
- Use a high-quality sanitary silicone in the final exposed joint between tile and tray.
